Isla and Eilidh Campaign Manifesto

1.        Pro-Palestine

We will:

1.1. Lobby for an increase of awareness and solidarity with Palestinian people on campus.

1.2. Champion the demands of the Palestine Solidarity Society which include the twinning of GCU with a destroyed university in Gaza, and at least two scholarships for Palestinian students at GCU.

2.      Representation

We will:

2.1. Represent everyone at GCU equally and proportionately.

2.2. Lobby for the Student’s Association to revert to the Student’s Union. A step towards re-politicising GCU.

2.3. Promise an open-door policy and will hold regular focus groups with students to ensure policy remains in line with student requirements.

2.4. Lobby to improve democratic processes within the Students Union.

2.5. Lobby for the university to recognise Islamophobia awareness month.

3.        Holding the University to account

We will:

3.1. Ensure an open line of communication with the staff unions through regular meetings to create a close relationship between the two pillars of university accountability.

3.2. Ensure that the students union carries out its role as a separate entirety to hold the university to account.

4.      Sporting

We will:

4.1. Lobby for there to be no classes on a Wednesday after 12pm, to provide a greater opportunity for sporting engagement at GCU without missing lectures.

5.      Wellbeing

We will:

5.1. Advocate for positive and sustained wellbeing, whatever that means to you

5.2. Aim to be the bridge between the student body and support services on campus.

Wellbeing is a phrase we hear all the time, and it will mean different things to all of us. Housing and money worriers will impact your wellbeing. Access to services and support services will impact your wellbeing. Access to societies where you can work with others, share interests and be part of something more than yourself will impact your wellbeing.

All students at Glasgow Caledonian University are automatically members of GCU Students' Association.
This membership is free for current GCU students.
