Societies Council

 

The Societies Council is made up of elected students who help shape the strategic direction of societies, support events, allocate funding, and assist new societies getting started. If you'd like to find out more, speak to a current council member or email societies@GCUstudents.co.uk.

Council Roles

Chair
  • Leads the Societies Council and oversees other members.
  • Attends Student Voice and ensures meetings run smoothly.
  • Chairs meetings using Committee Meeting Rules.
Head of New Societies
  • Motivates society committees to grow their membership.
  • Supports the setup of new societies and helps with form submissions.
  • Guides students through the society creation process.
Head of Communication
  • Promotes societies and events across campus.
  • Represents societies in GCU Students’ Association planning meetings.
  • Maintains an active social media presence for the council.
Head of Events
  • Plans Council-led events and helps societies run their own.
  • Delivers at least one society-wide event annually.
  • Supports the STAR (Societies Awards) event.
Societies Liaisons
  • Support and monitor societies within assigned areas.
  • Encourage volunteers and provide relevant guidance.
  • Coordinate group check-ins and resource-sharing meetings.
Head of Fundraising
  • Sources external funding to boost society budgets.
  • Supports fundraising efforts by individual societies.
  • Assists in raising funds for the Societies Awards.

All students at Glasgow Caledonian University are automatically members of GCU Students' Association.
This membership is free for current GCU students.
