Start a New Society

The Students' Association is here to support you in setting up and running your society. Watch our video to find out more or explore the steps below.

How do I get started?
  • Arrange a society starter meeting with a Students' Association staff member (email: societies@GCUstudents.co.uk) who will explain the process.
  • Collect a Society Starter Pack and think about the aims and activities of your society.
What’s next?
  • Find two people to form a temporary committee with you.
  • Spread the message about your new society.
  • Hold a get-together to elect three committee members.
  • Agree on objectives and discuss future activities, spending, and income.
  • Collect 10 membership forms.
  • Submit the completed Society Starter Pack.
Is that it?
  • The Society’s Council will review your pack and officially activate your society.
  • Until activation, you can still book rooms and run events.
  • Once active, committee members must attend training. You can also arrange a 1-2-1 with the Societies Assistant to discuss your plans and apply for funding.
