Hi everyone,
Alongside the Full Time Officer team, I have been working on my individual objectives to improve student experience at GCU. As we come to the end or 2024, I wanted to share some of the activities and achievements from Trimester A.
We recognise that entering a new academic environment can be challenging. So, in October we reached out to some GCU alumni and current students interested in volunteering to provide academic guidance, support and share their personal experience with new and incoming students.
Then, in November we organised an online programme featuring alumni, current students, the Full Time Officer team and new students. The event included; sharing academic guides, personal experiences, advice and information on the support available at GCU followed by a Q&A session for new students to ask their burning questions and seek guidance on matters relevant to them. As well as this, we held in-person academic sessions to support new students.
For students whose visas are set to expire before the release of their dissertation results, we successfully lobbied the university executive to grant priority marking ensuring that affected students can apply for post-study visas in a timely manner.
We continue to attend board meetings with the university to present challenges facing students at GCU.
