Hey Superstars!
Last week marked the official start for your new Full Time Officer (FTO) team – that’s Chinaenyenwa (Vice President SHLS), Eilidh (Vice President GSBS), Hamza (Vice President SCEBE), and me, Tom-Tom, your Student President! We've hit the ground running and are excited for the year ahead.
We started the week with plenty of introductions across campus. One highlight was meeting the amazing Library team, who are always proactive in supporting students. They've got some exciting developments coming up!
Representing You at Senate
On Wednesday 4th June 2025, we attended the University Senate meeting alongside student senators Emma and Dylan. For the first time in a while, there were six student representatives present—a real win! This is a direct result of the Senate Effectiveness Review we worked on with last year’s FTO team, to make sure the student voice is truly heard at these important decision-making spaces.
(Senate, by the way, is the body that makes decisions on academic matters—just in case you were wondering!)
Some key topics discussed included:
We’re now putting together a group of reps—including FTOs, Student Voice reps, academic reps, and SA staff—to gather feedback and ensure students shape the Revised Code of Conduct. If you're interested in being involved, please reach out to me at president@gcustudents.co.uk.
Week 1 was a brilliant start, and we’re really looking forward to continuing the work. We’ll keep you updated, stay visible, and most importantly, keep amplifying your voice in all the spaces that matter.
