Student Case Study - Maja Jørgensen, International Student

Tuesday 10-09-2019 - 14:16

Maja Jorgensen, BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology

How did you first get involved?

I first got involved in my first year when I was the Social Officer for the Psychology Society. The second year, I became President of the Psychology Society and a member of Student Voice, which opened many possibilities for me. I became a member of the Equality and Diversity Committee, Class Rep and delegate at the NUS Scotland and UK conferences.

Why did you decide to get involved?

The main reason why I wanted to be involved was to integrate and make the University process easier. I continued because it makes me happy - I feel I'm making a difference. I also think that it has a great impact on my personal skills and it helps to increase my employability.

What difference has it made to your university experience being involved?

It has made my experience so much better. It was hard for me being an EU student and coming here for the first time. It has helped me integrate, make friends, feel involved and made me feel that I'm making a difference.

What difference has your involvement made to others?

I hope my involvement has made others feel more welcome here. The reason I wanted to continue in the society is because they're such a great way to integrate and make friends. I hope that I have contributed to that and that those students who have attended the events has felt welcomed. I hope that being a Class Rep and Student Voice member has made an impact when correctly representing students.
