Whether you’re an equestrian yourself, or just know someone who is, you should never feel at loss for a horse-appropriate conversation!

They started the year off by bringing a horse to fresher’s fayre, which was a massive success and gave some much needed publicity!

Regarding training, the team introduced integrated training and lessons, where before these had been on separate nights. This allowed the club to feel less segregated creating a unity within the club. A subsidy scheme was introduced this year where the club would pay £4 towards every lesson a member booked reducing the price from £19 to £15 along with this they also introduced a loyalty scheme where every ten lessons a member came to they would get their eleventh lesson on the club. This is an innovative approach to the runnings of a club and the activities department are really impressed with this change! From this, lesson spaces became so popular that after the first couple of weeks the team decided to introduce a fifth lesson group into the first semester.

Teams have excelled this year gaining individual placing at every competition, including top placings of firsts and thirds out of sixteen riders, with one of the clubs rider’s just missing out on regional qualification which is an insane achievement. Teams have also continuously placed well placing first in their last competition and second at The Glasgow Taxi’s Cup. This is such an achievement especially when compared to previous years which has really boosted team moral and commitment.

The team have a great social aspect to it. They went on two trips this semester, one with a group called ‘Riders of the Storm’ where 20 members went on a trick riding experience over 2 nights learning to vault on and off horses and perform other tricks. The second trip was with the clubs old favourites at Wilderways Adventures where they ride off the path and through the hills and coasts of the west of Scotland. Both these trips have been open to members of all abilities and has shown members another side to the sport.

“Moving into next year the club goals are to keep our members at the heart of the club and continue to entice new members to join, keeping our regular members coming back. Also we hope to create a developmental C team, primarily out of 1st and 2nd years, that aims to build up and develop these riders so that they are ready to join our A & B team the following year(s). We hope to continue to plan exciting and fun socials and trips that include ALL members and continue to grow our social media presence through regular updates” - Justine Swanson - VP
